The idea for Lingehout Food Forest arose when the citizen wind cooperative Betuwewind was looking for a place to plant trees to compensate for their wind farm. With Gerdien Dijkstra as project leader, enthusiastic members developed this idea further. Food forest Lingehout applies a balanced approach to food forest management: responding to needs, such as watering after drought. It also includes an organic vegetable garden, involving 140 participants with 20% discount on harvest subscriptions, producing herbs, edible flowers and nuts. They aim for year-round delivery and are therefore exploring winter processing options at Food Station. Educational activities, such as walks and workshops, highlight their commitment to food awareness and the desire to involve people in their food production. They dream of more funding for future expansions and offer opportunities for support on their website.
